BOTOX® (ANTI-WRINKLE)
Botox and Vistabel are the brand names for the form of Botulinum toxin Type A.
In facial aesthetics this product is used to relax wrinkle causing muscles to create a smooth appearance.
Most common areas of use are.
- Forehead wrinkles
- Crows feet lines
- Glabellar Frown lines
How Botox® Works
Botox® is injected into the chosen muscle area and blocks the chemical signals that make the muscles contract.
The muscles then simply relax and allow skin over it to relax and smooth.
Small quantities of Botulinum are used and only the affected muscle area is usually affected.
Treatment starts to work anywhere from 2-14 days and can last from between 3-4 months from the initial course of treatment.
These time periods can however vary slightly between individuals.
Side Effects
Most common side effects include Bruising, Temporary Swelling and Headaches.
Side effects are generally rare and when they do occur resolve in a short period of time.
DERMAL FILLERS
Dermal fillers contain a substance which is injected into the skin in order to reduce wrinkles and lines by plumping out the skin.
Fillers used nowadays are synthetically produced non-animal products containing hyaluronic acid.
They are most commonly effective in treating:
- Crows feet (around the eyes)
- Frown Lines
- Peri-oral lines (vertical lines above the mouth)
- Nasolabial Lines
- Lip enhancement for greater volume and fuller appearance.
Treatment
Fillers are injected directly into the site of wrinkles in order to plump them out.
In certain areas a dental anaesthesia block can be administered to reduce the discomfort but this often not required.
Treatment can take anywhere between 15-30 minutes on average and the effects typically last between 6-9 months.
This may vary from person to person and depending on how many sites are treated.
Common side effects of dermal fillers include inflammation and tenderness however this usually short lived.
Occasionally one may suffer allergic reaction to dermal fillers.
Products
The most common products we use include Juvederm Ultra, Restylane and Belotoro.
Choice of product is varied from person to person depending on treatment requred and personal preference.
